Saffron is a plant from the Iridaceae family and the Crocus genus. It is considered the most expensive Iranian spice and is used in cooking.

The saffron bulb (corm) has a brown protective tunic (husk) covering it. After the bulb is planted, the growth process begins: a stem forms and a bud blossoms at its tip.
